Happy Birthday Linda Simeone, screenplay writer! I'm looking forward to your visit here and can't wait to get your take on some of the backgrounds and symbolism being added to the feature.
Looks like rain and about 45 degrees through the weekend for the Sandpoint Film Festival. We'll leave here about 6 AM Saturday, and be there in time for morning coffee.
I was able to find the ADR for the fireplace scene and due to Andrew Campbell's excellent timing, it fit in perfectly. The sound problem was solved with that. I still want to futz around with Soundtrack Pro to see if there is any way to clean up and use the original dialogue. So many experiments this year. Ed gave it his best shot and a noise gate is probably part of the fix, but it just wasn't making it on the FCP timeline. I'll send him the finished clip, so he can see what I was after. Susie's de-essing suggestion is probably part of the fix as well, but the Soundtrack de-esser won't identify the noise gate highs. So much to learn. With some venture capital I might be able to hire a Disney engineer. I don't think it would be a conflict of interest on our level, but you never know.
I'm finishing up the last of the Liz Taylor/Richard Burton scene today. The challenge there was finding a tracking point against the 3D Hubble telescope clip. If anybody out there has had experience tracking a dot against a bunch of dots in After Effects I could certainly use your expertise. Most shots were static, but the opening one follows Andrew and to get the image to "stick" is a real trial. Looks 'okay' now but could use some work. Also, finishing the Bob Hope USO tour cuts today and tomorrow. Thank God for Youtube!
I'll post festival pictures here and let you all know what Sandpoint, Idaho looks like. Pend Orielle Lake is the most beautiful thing in the world. You can't miss that! Did you know that Nell Shipman's production company was just a few miles from there at Priest Lake? Paul Brand and I got pictures with Tom Trusky a few years back. Not much left of the place. I think we found the dog's grave though.
See you next week in November.

Lots of frost here in Wallace, Idaho. Yesterday I got a phone call at 5:30 in the morning from my friend in Saltese, Montana. There was an inch of snow on the ground! It only rained here. The fall colors are magnificent. As soon as I finish this 20 minute festival piece I'll take more pictures of the foliage around here.
I showed the 20 minute piece to three people yesterday. The sound is not finished and I may need to buy some cleanup software which I found out about last night from my Disney Toons friend Susie McKinley. I'll contact my cousin Ed too. He has some engineering experience and may be able to help with the hissing and levels somewhat. I have much more than a day's work here so I'll have to send it out with faulty sound and replace it before the premiere. The audience said the story tracked well. They were a bit confused with the hilltop scene... weren't sure he died. I'll add some glow to the clips to denote a different dimension. Something like that.
Katja Gwynn finished the 1-sheet. It will be posted on IMDB today, as well as here and on our Facebook page. Very exciting to have her on board. She has designed motion pictures as well.
