When I look back on this year I see very little filmmaking and a lot of scrambling to find some sort of business niche for our little films. There are sayings in my family that describe what I went through. "Don't show fools half done work." Athalie Burnell Also, something about casting pearls to swine. Mary Lou Hanks. I think Mom got that from the bible, but it was used so much around the house she must have credit.
The best part is, some major changes are taking place with the Across Bank Street project. Changes that have come from little enlightenments along the way this past year. The first is that the one who holds the purse strings makes the decisions no matter how powerful the leaders seem to be. At the Slippery Gulch meeting this year, it became apparent that this purse string holder was not on the side of the filmmakers here in the Silver Valley. That's not to say that many in the group were not interested. But, the people who have worked so hard on these films through the long hours, heat, cold and rain, deserve more than a casual dismissal. Those people will continue regardless of the filming location and in the end will be the ones to prosper as the project grows.
We are now associated with Film Alliance Northwest and CMTV in Spokane. These organizations have a wealth of contacts and means to make our productions more professional. This year will bring many surprises and Across Bank Street will be on another level. Looking forward to the next update with exciting news!
