August Fable

The amazing comedy team of Coco and Penny direct from the Jay Leno Comedy and Magic Club in Los Angeles is featured in our August fable "Hazelnuts", adapted from the Aesop's Fable "The Boy and the Filberts".

  1. The more I think about the Club House location, the more I'm sure it would work better; as long as we can get some people wranglers. The distance on the over the shoulder shots is better, (shallower DOF) there is a possibility of a smooth dolly shot and we wouldn't have to deal with the loud music coming from the pool area of the neighbor by the garden, like we did last time.

The last two fables have garnered over 250 views on YouTube and the page views here are reaching the highest number ever. At Disney I get at least one question a day about our monthly fable shoot. I think most people are amazed that we haven't given up the endeavor, considering that small, no-budget productions are fraught with the same types of problems multi-million dollar shoots are, just less of them.

On the other end of things I have a contact at the Discovery Channel now who is trying to get the UFO doc idea to the right development person there. A contact at Discovery might help us get Eva's Alien going again.

  2. . and a good time was had by all! The comedy team Coco and Penny were in top form yesterday, as was out little production crew of ALL WOMEN this time...wow! Thanks so much Lucia, Sue, Rachel, Linda and Jodi. And, to the Valley Oaks bus driver Ezra. As usual, can't wait to get this on the time line and start the process.

It's hard to believe it was nearly 100 degrees out there while we were shooting. We watched the dailies afterward in an air conditioned apartment with plenty of goodies supplied by Lucia. I found out, our new person Jodi, has an AGDVX-100, just like mine and is a certified Final Cut user. Hope we can get together for this edit.

I haven't written as much as I should. Some amazing things have been happening in my life and in the lives of those dearest to me and I have been enjoying just living.

  3. Our September fable idea has changed due to writer/director Lucia Flynn traveling to Italy this month.  We will need to get a preliminary draft ready to finalize by the last week in August in order to cast and shoot the first weeks of September.  This is your chance to get in on a production from the beginning.
    The idea so far:
Four people are putting together a jigsaw puzzle, they each start at a corner and work toward the center. The pieces symbolize puzzle of their lives.  At the end we find the last center piece is missing. They look around the room for the last piece and each person finds it. At first they argue over the who has the right piece, but when they each try to place their individual puzzle piece, they find they are all identical and all four pieces fit in the last position

  4. 5 1/2 minutes on the timeline. Had to modify each clip to square pixels this morning... three hours later 6:30am, better get ready for work. Tonight's another long editing session.

  5. For the past week I've been puzzle solving. Thank heaven for Google. Seems if you change the aspect ratio or anamorphic settings in the project file it puts a black frame around the entire clip unless you go back and change all the preference and project settings. Ugh. The thing to know is, that once they're on the timeline they don't change. You have to reset every clip. At this point I'm just happy I didn't have to recapture everything. Wheew! So on to the motion tracking project in After Effects. I Skyped Isaac and after a bit of trouble shooting he suggested that I remove the entire program and reinstall it. I ended up having to call AE support in the Phillippines to get the code to reinstall, but in the end it worked, so I'm up and running.

Quite a quake on the East Coast. It really hit New Matamoras, Ohio, where I grew up. Apparently it went on for 10 minutes.

  6. First August Post: August 1, 2011
We went over the script and formed a shot list yesterday. Went to the location and did some experimental shots. Still trying to simulate a smooth dolly shot... this one would have to be on very uneven ground. Lucia suggested we change the location to the bench in front of the Club House. We could only do this if we had a person really good at wrangling people otherwise we'd never get finished for the passersby and noise. Still a good idea if we want to attempt a smooth dolly shot.

  7. First day and 97 page views here. That's five more than our most active day since we started! We're over the 5000 hits mark, but at this point there isn't any money to have a celebration. Brian Horgan is looking at the September script to see about a rewrite. At the upcoming meeting on Sunday we'll finalize the script, set up a shot-list and start organizing. Still no word back from Howard at Valley Oaks so I'll call the office today about using the clubhouse for September 10th. Somebody was in my apartment yesterday...hmmm. They're supposed to give 24 hour notice unless there is an emergency.
